Field trip to Charlie Elliot Wildlife Center

Eight members of the Ocmulgee Audubon Society met for this month's field trip to the Charlie Elliot Wildlife Center.  Our extensive birding trip also included the Clybel Sheppard WMA and the surrounding areas in both Jasper and Newton Counties.

The Charlie Elliot Wildlife Center is a little known place that offers a lot for hunters, fishermen, and BIRDERS.

We visited the interpretive center which was quite interesting.

We covered the various ponds and lake areas, the grassy fields, and the...bogs? That's what it seemed like at one point as you can see in this last picture.

All in all we've identified 58 bird species including an Orange-crowned Warbler, Wild Turkeys, a Vesper Sparrow and 6 other sparrow species, Kinglets, 4 woodpecker species, Nuthatches, Great Blue Herons, Grebes, and Eastern Meadowlarks.

Join us next time.
