Oconee River Greenway Field Trip, 5/19/12

About a dozen of us made the trek to Milledgeville to bird the Oconee River Greenway Saturday. It was a gorgeous day, and our first treat was to watch Cliff Swallows flying to and from 101 nests under the bridge!



As we walked, we got to enjoy the lovely park, and were treated to lots of birds, including Prothonotary Warbler, Northern Parula, American Redstart, and a very cooperative Kentucky Warbler and Swainson's Warbler.



On the river we saw a Great Blue Heron, Little Blue Heron, and Spotted Sandpiper.

We ended the day with 47 species. We saw this Red-tailed Hawk on a power line pole near the parking lot.



After enjoying a last look at this lovely Great Blue Heron, we went to Amici in Milledgeville for a great lunch.
